’65 Cheoy Lee Bermuda 30 Ketch for sale
After 17 years, we have decided to sell our beloved Meggie. She should be in the water sailing not sitting on the hard in storage, and therefore we’ve come to the sad conclusion that it’s time to pass Meggie on to her next captains.
Meggie was built in 1964 in Hong Kong and has a carvel planked Burmese teak hull in traditional fashion, payed and caulked. Once she has taken up, she is drum tight. She has custom hand build (2006) douglas fir masts (main and mizzen) and a custom douglas fir bowsprit (all done by my husband), and she comes with a custom CapHorn self steering system.
She protected us and provided a home for us while we sailed her 15,000 nautical miles from Georgian Bay to South America and back, never letting us down.
She needs some TLC (what boat doesn’t) as she has sat on the hard approx 9 years, but her bones are solid and the hull is sound. We had a survey done in July 2021.
Last summer (2021) we purchased a brand new (still in the crate) BETA 20 engine (paid $11,987.00 CAD) that will fit the engine compartment perfectly. All sails are usable but a new main and jib will be needed in the next couple years. Meggie is now sitting comfortably in a covered storage barn.
For years Meggie was like part of our little family and it saddens us greatly to sell her so we are adamant that the next owners are keen, passionate and committed about owning a Classic wooden boat. She’s a pretty special lady.
Miraculously our blog is still available from our 3 ½ years living aboard Meggie which shows Meggie’s potential: www.timetosail.blogspot.com
Serious inquiries only. More details available to any interested person(s).
Please note the pictures (other than the storage) are when we were actively living and sailing aboard.
Located in Southern Georgian Bay Ontario, Canada.
