Additional Info

This 1969 Volkswagen Bus is a Westfalia pop-top camper that is finished in beige and equipped with a table, a folding bed, cabinets, and a sink. The van is said to have been sold new in Washington State and imported to British Columbia shortly thereafter, where it was stored in a barn for approximately 25 years before 2017. Power comes from an air-cooled 1.6L flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle, and a quick shifter and a solar power system were installed under previous ownership. Service performed since the seller’s acquisition in 2019 is said to have included replacement of a door handle, valve and carburetor adjustments, a compression check, an oil change, chassis lubrication, and more. This Type 2 Westy is offered with clean British Columbia registration in the seller’s name.

This “bay window” Bus features corner turn signals, a painted wrap-around front bumper, and smaller taillights than those used on later models. The van was repainted in its current beige under previous ownership according to the seller, and a passenger-side step has been fitted. Rust is noted on the edge of the engine lid, and the taillight lenses are cracked.

Painted 14″ steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and Uniroyal Laredo tires that were installed in 2017. New brake drums, shoes, pads, and lines are also said to have been installed in 2017, along with replacement swing axles, driveshafts, inner tie rods, boots, and suspension bushings. The front suspension was lubricated in November 2019.

A solar power system installed under previous ownership features a panel mounted aft of the pop-top as well as a regulator, a deep-cycle battery, and a power inverter. The condition of the roof tent can be seen in the gallery below. A new right front door handle with a lock coded to work with the existing keys was installed in November 2019.

The front seats and door panels are upholstered in tan vinyl accented by a black dashboard and rubber floor mat. Instrumentation includes a 90-mph speedometer and a fuel gauge, and an aftermarket clock has been added. A quick shift kit was reportedly installed under previous ownership. Just over 17k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, with total mileage unknown.

The rear cabin is trimmed in mustard vinyl and features a kitchenette, a sink, storage cabinets, a folding table, a rear bench seat which converts to a bed, curtains, and other camping equipment.

The air-cooled 1,600cc flat-four is said to have been fitted with a new carburetor, spark plugs, and ignition coil in 2017. Work performed under the seller’s ownership included valve, carburetor, and timing adjustments as well as a compression check, and installation of a new fuel filter, lines, and hoses. An oil change and lubrication were performed in December 2019. The rear engine crossbar is bent, the generator wire insulation is brittle, and an exhaust leak is noted from the muffler.

The Van was featured in a Tourism Campaign, and here are a few clips: https://vimeo.com/385715409
